Figure out what your vision is for the website project. Are you looking for a cool, trendy, tech-savvy website? Or, are you looking for a simple, scaled-down website so users can focus on the content? Make sure you know what your vision is so that you can transfer that vision to your website design brief and easily share with your web developer.
